What Metals do we offer?

Here at Michael Trio, we offer different options for precious metals. Ranging from 14K to 18K gold as well as different colour gold such as yellow gold, white gold, rose gold. We also provide alternatives to gold such as Platinum.

Why the naming convention?

Each ring has different concentration of gold within them. As gold is highly malleable and soft in nature, it is normal for rings to contain alloy metals within them. This allows the ring to retain its shape over time. We use the Karat system to rate purity of gold hence the K at the back of 18K.

Not to be mistaken for the Carat system used for Diamonds, the karat system uses the number to determine how much pure gold is within the metal. 24K means 24 out of 24 parts is made of gold but it is not usual to use 24K gold for engagement rings due to its malleability.

The most common karat used is 18K gold (75% purity) and 14K gold (58% purity), which is both offered here at Michael Trio.

White Gold

Appearance

White Gold has a similar silvery white colour to it as well. It is a much affordable option compared to platinum, but it is not recommended for individuals with nickel allergies.

Maintenance

White Gold is covered with a rhodium coating to protect from scratches and giving it Luster. However, this will require re-plating in order to maintain its colour.

Affordability

White Gold is relatively more affordable as compared to Platinum, but it requires more maintenance, which in may be costly over the long run.

Yellow Gold

Appearance

Yellow Gold has a distinct gold hue to it. 18K gold is usually mixed with other white metals to achieve its incredible colour and Luster.

Maintenance

Yellow gold is usually mix with other metal at a good percentage, such as 18K gold is 75% gold and 25% other metal alloys. This allows it to be durable for daily wear and not much maintenance is required.

Affordability

Yellow Gold is more affordable as compared to Platinum. It is priced relatively similar to White Gold and Rose Gold.

Rose Gold

Appearance

Rose gold has a soft champagne rose colour which make its elegantly beautiful. The combination of gold and copper alloy gives the metal its distinct colour.

Maintenance

Rose Gold contained copper alloy which helps make it more durable and stronger. This means that it does not require extra maintenance.

Affordability

Rose Gold is more affordable compared to Platinum. It is priced similar to White Gold and Yellow Gold.

Platinum

Appearance

Platinum has a silvery white colour to it, making it highly sought after. Its hypoallergenic status makes it a great choice for individuals that have allergic reactions to nickel and other metals.

Maintenance

Platinum requires minimal maintenance as it does not tarnish and corrode easily. It is also more durable compared to gold as it is less malleable.

Affordability

Due to its durability and stunning appearance, Platinum is highly valued and is the most expensive out of all the precious metals
