What are Wedding Bands?
As a symbol of love and commitment, the tradition of wedding bands / wedding rings has been passed down from Egyptians to Europeans. It is used in formal wedding ceremonies to symbolise the promise of marriage. We believe that wedding bands are a celebration of the vows you exchange on your wedding day and we are here to guide you on how to select the right wedding band.
Wedding Band Tradition
Back in Egyptian times, wedding rings are viewed as symbols of eternal love and the gateway to the future. Therefore, it is most commonly worn on the ring finger of the left hand, due to it having a vein that runs directly to the heart.
The tradition has been passed on to most western countries. That is why it has become common in most weddings even till now. However, in some countries, such as Spain, Norway and Russia, the wedding ring is worn on the right hand instead.
Romans and Greeks were the ones that started the tradition of using gold and precious stones to create rings. It was only until the 12th century that the Catholic Church used rings to formalise marriages.
